The Whole Armor of God – Part 5

“And take . . . the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” Ephesians 6:17

.

.

Among all the weapons which are available to a believer, the only weapon which has both offensive and defensive purposes is the Sword. This is the sharpest weapon ever known to mankind!

For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12 AMP)

Jesus used this weapon against Satan in the wilderness not only to defend His mission but also to give a mighty offensive blow to Satan’s scheme. When the adversary comes to taunt or trick believers, unless we have this weapon sharpened and ready to use (by always keeping it on the belt of truth), there is a good possibility that we may succumb to it. This fact underscores the importance of meditating the word of God, day and night. It provides us with the greatest immunity against sin! (Psalms 119:11)

The word of God gives us a strong defense to stand against the tides of our times. So many sincere believers are misled and defeated in their spiritual journey because of their unpreparedness with respect to this weapon. It is God’s plan for every believer to be rooted and established in His word. In order to be successful, we cannot afford to turn from it, to the right or to the left (Joshua 1:6-9). We cannot let it depart from our mouth or from our heart! We have to diligently follow what it says. Our success and prosperity depends on it!

Health conscious people try to detox their body, periodically using certain agents. They do this by abstaining from some foods or taking certain formulas with hope of keeping them clean. I do believe that the first and the foremost in the process of detoxing is to have a clean mind and spirit! The Word has the power to keep us clean and holy (Ephesians 5:26). Jesus told his disciples, “you are already clean because of the word I have spoken” (John 15:3).

May the Holy Spirit help us to study His word –the sword of the Spirit– and apply it in every life situation to keep us pure, holy and well able to stand against every wile of the enemy.
