Every follower of Jesus is in a battlefield. Jesus said, “Since you don’t belong to the world, the world would hate you” (John 17:14-16). The world system is under the dominion of our adversary. So we will be faced with the opposition; none of the true believers are immune to it. Now the question is, “How are we going to fight against this faceless enemy?”
.
It is God’s will for us to claim the victory in this battle. Since the victory is already won, our job is to claim that victory. At the cross of Calvary, Jesus said, “it is finished.” What He meant was the work for our redemption is finished. As He rose from the death, He claimed victory over everything and defeated every purposes of the enemy! So our job is to appropriate the victory in our daily life, since the enemy will keep challenging our victory till he is eternally punished and thrown into the lake of fire!
In order to claim this victory, we need to have some basic understanding about this battle:
THIS BATTLE BELONGS TO THE LORD: 2 Chronicle 20:15 Battle is a reality for both the Old Testament and the New Testament believer. Our Commander in Chief is the Lord Jesus Christ. Which means that we are in the victory team and that our actions and dispositions should reflect this victorious state. It is important to listen to Him and follow His guidance in every situation. We need to be strong in His might and power. (Ephesians 6:10)
WE ARE THE SOLDIERS IN THE ARMY OF THE LORD: 2 Timothy 2:3-4 A soldier is trained for the battle. We need to be trained by the Holy Spirit. Our training manual is the Bible. A soldier has a disciplined life. He is expected to be very loyal to the Commander in Chief. A soldier needs to be wearing the armor given by the Commander in Chief. The armor and the uniform will reflect our identity!
THE LORD HAS ALREADY WON THE VICTORY: 1 Corinthians 15:57 This understanding is of paramount importance. We are not fighting to win, but we are fighting because of the victory. The enemy is challenging the victory that our Lord has already won. We need to keep reminding him of our victory. Our actions should speak loudly and clearly that we are on the victorious side
THIS BATTLE WILL NEVER BE OVER UNTIL THE LORD COMES: Revelation 12:10 The battles may have different appearances but the same goal- distract and defeat the children of God. We cannot take our eyes off from this.
THERE ARE DIFFERENT BATTLEFRONTS: Galatians 5:19-21; Ephesians 6:12 The battle takes place in the (1) spiritual word/unseen world or in the (2) visible world around us or in (3) our own mind! It is very important to know these realms as we are getting ready to fight. Our battle strategy needs to be modified based on the battlefronts.
We need to have these basic understandings.
