Jesus is the Healer (Exodus 23:25). I consider introducing the people I serve to the Master Physician, to be my primary responsibility as a physician, in words and in deeds. My failure in doing so is a major disservice. Since He designed this body, He will be the best person for us to consult!
.
“He heals all our diseases” (Matt 15:30,31). “Nothing is impossible for Him. It His will for us to be in good health” (3 John 1:2). The question is why I cannot appropriate that healing in my body. The following are some of the obstacles that are hindering our promises.
The ultimate purpose of healing is to glorify God and to help us enjoy the eternal happiness and joy. Once we totally surrender ourselves to God, the plan that He chooses for us will be the best for our lives. While we have the temporal happiness and well-being in mind (which is not a bad thing), our Lord has eternity in mind. That is why He said it would be better for you to go to Heaven with one eye than go to Hell with both eyes. If His kingdom is going to advance by keeping us healthy and prolonging our life on this side of Heaven, it is desirable and honorable.
LACK OF KNOWLEDGE – “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” Hosea 4:6
FOCUSING ON SYMPTOMS – “Walk by faith” 2 Cori 5:7. Our prayers should be prayer of faith. 1 John 5:15 “We have what we asked of Him by faith.”
ATMOSPHERE OF UNBELIEF – Jesus could not perform any mighty works because of their unbelief. Matthew 13:58; Mark 4:40; Matt 28:17; Matt 17:17; Hebrews 3:12 We create the necessary atmosphere by praising and worshipping the Lord. This is why in many of the “miracle crusades” healing occurs even before they are prayed over.
NOT TAKING CARE OF YOUR BODY – Gal 6:7- “Whatever a man sows, that He will also reap.” James 4:17 Since we are the temples of the living God, we have a tremendous responsibility to take care of this body to the best of our ability.
PAST FAILURES – man with an epileptic son Mark 9:14-28 Just because we may not get the answer to the prayers in the way we expect, it should not deter us from perusing this till we receive it. Fervent prayer is the unrelenting prayer, refusing to take “no” for an answer!
FALSE TEACHING/TRADITIONS – Mark 7:13 “The Word of God takes no effect through your tradition.” We should be willing to give up the ungodly, unbiblical traditions.
NOT DISCERNING THE BODY – 1 Cori 11:29 The awareness that we are a part of the body of Christ and that our actions have a significant impact on other parts of the body need to be a part of every decision making process.
TRUSTING IN MAN INSTEAD OF GOD – 2 Chronicles 6:12-13 King Asa was counting on men rather than God. Whether we seek medical help or help from other people, our trust should always be on the Lord and Lord alone.
UNFORGIVENESS – Mark 11:25,26 An unforgiving spirit can hinder our prayer. An unforgiving spirit is an unhealthy spirit. An unhealthy spirit won’t be able to contain God’s blessing.
UNCONFESSED SINS – Psalm 66:18 Harboring any form of wickedness is detrimental to our spiritual well being. It becomes a rebellion to the Lordship of Jesus.
LACK OF PATIENCE – Hebrew 6:12; 1 King 18:41-44 This is a very common mistake we all are guilty of. Instead of waiting on God’s timing, we ask Him to intervene at our timetable.
PRIDE/ DISOBEDIENCE – 2 King 5 Our complete surrender to the Holy Spirit’s guidance is quintessential for our well-being. Our ideas and styles should give way to His.
